APRIL - It was with great surprise that on being introduced to the members by Chairman, Brian Leith, the Essex Chordsmen entered the hall in a seemingly endless parade of men. Clad in identical outfits - highly-polished shoes, black trousers and bright blue shirts with matching ties, 21 choristers took up their place and began an evening of entertainment. It was very sad to note that the Essex Chordsmen numbered only 14 fewer than the "audience" with just 35 of our members attending. From the first pitch pipe note, the singers were able to enthral those who were lucky enough to be present, with a range of songs old and new, some from the shows, others beautiful renditions of songs made famous by such entertainers as Elvis Presley, The Everly Brothers, Tommy Steele, The Drifters, The Righteous Brothers and other popular performers of their day. Leading up to the interval (when fish and chips were served), two of the Choristers, one with an an acoustic guitar, ran through a number of very entertaining songs. Following the break, the Choristers now wearing the addition of identical bright red jackets continued to demonstrate their absolute skill at close harmony singing. It was a pity that so many of our members were unable to be present to enjoy what was truly an "Evening of Entertainment." We are grateful to Social Secretary Maria, who made the arrangements for the whole evening. (Report and photos: Brian Leith)
